I love exploring nature. I love travelling. And I love photography. These things all come together in marysejansenart!
becoming a photographer
The first time I owned a camera I was about 9 years old. I took some photos of my family and of the communal backyard where we used to play. I couldn’t wait the 2-3 days it took to get a film developed and printed! Of course in those days printing was expensive so care was taken with every shot I took. I loved travelling and exploring new places and I would look at my photos over and over again and carefully put them in albums, reliving the experiences I’d had. Oh how excited I was when digital photography was invented! I could now shoot to my heart’s content and seek out the best images!
While technology has advanced and I use it gratefully to my advantage, my heart is not with the technical side of it all. This blog is not about equipment and the settings on my camera. To me, it’s about being out there, experiencing what comes on my path and capturing it to the best of my abilities so that I can share these discoveries with you! I’m an opportunistic photographer. On every hike, every trip there are new things to see and catch with my camera. My eyes are always scanning the surroundings for interesting wildlife and scenery! I never know what I’m going to find, but nature always has something in store!
Moving to Australia
Originally from the Netherlands, I made Australia my home in 2009. Doing this with a 5 year old child was the perfect opportunity to explore this new world together! And there was a lot to discover! I was rapidly building up a collection of images that begged to be seen. After dedicating myself to home educating my child through primary and secondary education I took it upon myself in 2020 to finally start sharing my images with the world! Marysejansenart was born! Australia has an amazing and unique natural world, which many Australians take for granted and many others in the world know little about.
‘In the spirit of reconciliation I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Queensland and the rest of Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. I pay my respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.’
Nature Photography Blog
This blog is dedicated to celebrating the beauty of nature, which is the inspiration for my work. I share images, stories about the images and interesting facts about what you see in the images. I hope you enjoy and that you will appreciate this beautiful environment as much as I do!
I’m thrilled to have .earth as my url as it’s symbolic for my mission to celebrate and appreciate the Earth’s natural world. When we feel appreciative we are more inclined to help protect our planet and conserve our species!
In 2022 I’ve also started creating videos of my walks, where I explore the Australian Bush. In these videos I share with you my experiences of all the amazing things you can see during these walks! You will also gain some insight behind the scenes in how I work as a photographer. The series is titled ‘Come for a walk in the Australian Bush’ and is published on my YouTube Channel. The videos also feature in my blog posts.
